GFL Kansas City wins Business of the Year award

GFL is proud to announce that our Kansas City branch was recently awarded the prestigious 2023 Corporate Business of the Year award by the North East Johnson County (NEJC) Chamber of Commerce!

Each year the Chamber recognizes the successes and outstanding achievements of its members in four categories: Corporate Business, Small Business, Volunteer Service, and Nonprofit Organization.

“GFL has demonstrated their commitment to our communities by giving back and supporting others through their generosity and volunteering throughout the years, making them ideal recipients of the Corporate Business of the Year award,” said Deb Settle, president and CEO of the NEJC Chamber of Commerce.

GFL Regional Vice President Ben Seiferman and Regional Sales Manager Jason Fetters attended the Chamber’s Annual Gala where they were presented with the award.

Tom Coffman, government contracts manager at Kansas City, says that there are many positive aspects to being a Chamber of Commerce member. Networking with other businesses in the 10 suburban communities that the Chamber serves has provided a great way to introduce GFL to people and has resulted in an expanded customer base.

“When we joined the Chamber, we discovered that it was a great opportunity to educate the public, particularly around recycling,” Coffman said. “We’ve made many presentations to people associated with the Chamber who’ve asked us to talk to their clubs, members, businesses or neighborhoods.”

Coffman and the team are especially enthusiastic about the partnership they’ve built with Growing Futures Early Education Center, a local organization that delivers the Head Start program and services to young children and their families.

The GFL team met the Growing Futures team over a year ago through Chamber activities and with the support of GFL’s Full Circle Project, the Kansas City branch adopted a classroom.

“A dozen employees volunteered to help rebuild that classroom,” Coffman said. “The classroom now has a GFL plaque in it, and we've got another project coming up with them right after the first of the year to help with the demolition and building of new bathrooms at the center.”

Coffman said that winning the Corporate Business of the Year award was even sweeter because their friends at Growing Futures also won in the Nonprofit Organization category.

“Success is driven by good partners, which is what we’ve found through our membership with the NEJC Chamber,” said Coffman. “It’s provided us with many opportunities to give back to the local communities we serve.”
