Congratulations to Matthew McAra, GFL’s area vice-president, solid waste for western Canada on being named a 2022 Waste360 40 Under 40 winner. The awards recognize rising stars in the solid waste industry.
“I’m incredibly honored to have been selected for this award,” said Matthew. “I’m so proud of what we’ve done at GFL and even prouder of the team we’ve built and I’m excited to see GFL continue to grow.”
As area vice-president, Matthew’s diverse skillset and instincts in the solid waste industry have been instrumental in leading his team to drive the continued growth and success of GFL’s western Canada solid waste operations. Under his leadership, revenue within that business has doubled through a combination of both strategic acquisitions and organic growth.
Matthew’s rapid rise through GFL’s ranks is testament to his talent, drive and work ethic. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Matthew joined GFL as a sales manager in 2013, then quickly moved into a district manager role later that year. In 2018, Matthew became director, development, focusing on acquisition integration and streamlining day-to-day operations, before being appointed to his current role as area vice-president in 2019. Matthew also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alberta Waste Management Association.
Matthew and other 40 under 40 recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony at WasteExpo in May 2022. To read more about his award, visit 2022 Waste360 40 under 40 winners, where a conversation with Matthew will be published in the coming months.
