GFL Environmental (GFL) US Liquids Division was named one of America’s Safest Companies for 2022. GFL and eight other award-winning companies will be honored at an awards ceremony that is part of EHS Today’s Safety Leadership Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, from October 18 to 20.
“This award recognizes all of the effort, time, energy, care and attention that GFL employees have put in across all the different regions in the different business units,” said Brian Hillier, director, EH&S, Liquids, North America.
The award is presented by EHS Today, the magazine for environment, health and safety leaders. The nine companies that have been chosen for 2022 represent a broad array of industries, including construction, industrial hygiene, manufacturing and recycling.
For more than 20 years, America’s Safest Companies has sought to identify the characteristics that differentiate good safety programs from great ones and to celebrate the best practices and procedures that exemplify safety excellence.
To be considered for one of America’s Safest Companies, GFL had to complete an application that demonstrated our commitment to excellence in several areas: support from leadership and management for EHS efforts; employee involvement in the EHS process; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates lower than the average for our industry; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; good communication about the value of safety; and a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
One of GFL’s core values is Safe For Life which reflects our ongoing pledge to the health and safety of every worker, subcontractor, visitor and member of the public, in every service we provide.
“In the end, it’s less about winning an award and more about having people go home safely each day,” Hillier said, “but the recognition that GFL’s employees have done the right things every day for so long that we’ve created a Safe For Life culture is something we can all be proud of.”
