GFL proud to partner with Whistler Adaptive Sports Program

Our GFL Squamish, BC, team attended a barbecue hosted by the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program to celebrate a new partnership that includes an $80,000 donation through GFL’s Full Circle Project.

“GFL is pleased to support Whistler Adaptive by helping create accessible sports programming and learning opportunities that promote inclusivity, confidence, and empowerment for people living with disabilities in Whistler and its neighboring communities,” GFL Founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said. “Through our Full Circle Project, GFL is committed to giving back to charities like Whistler Adaptive that make a lasting impact on the lives of people who live and work in the local communities we serve.”

Since its inception 20 years ago, the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program Society has been removing barriers to adventure for people with disabilities and neurodiversity.

It offers various adaptive sports programs and a dynamic learning centre in Whistler, British Columbia.

The charity provides a safe and inclusive space for youth and adults with various disabilities and provides accessibility to the adventures that the Sea-to-Sky corridor has to offer.

The programs run year-round and include skiing, snowboarding, Nordic sit skiing, swimming, biking, kayaking and more.

“Whistler Adaptive is a vital resource to the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve,” Whistler Adaptive Executive Director Shelley Milstein said. “Thanks to GFL Environnmental's generous donation, our coaching, volunteer and operations team will continue in their mission to support access to sport and recreation by breaking down the financial, physical and social barriers that so often limit participation.”

Whistler Adaptive has continued to grow over the years and has significantly impacted the local community and beyond.

The barbecue event brought together coaches, volunteers and program participants.

Our Squamish team thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the incredible impacts of the Whistler Adaptive programs. They also helped flip some burgers, set up waste disposal, hand out branded water bottles and present the $80,000 check to the charity.

This donation will go towards the multi-sport-based program and the resources Whistler Adaptive needs to make their programs successful.
