In response to the recent flooding crisis in British Columbia (BC), GFL has donated a total of $30,000 to three separate charities supporting local community flood relief efforts.
Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue, BC SPCA and Archway Community Services each received a $10,000 donation through GFL’s community-driven charity partnership program, the Full Circle Project (FCP). The donations will help to alleviate some of the devastating impacts of the flooding in communities across the province’s Lower Mainland.
“We are proud to support the excellent work these local charities are doing to support the impacted communities,” said Daryl Doubleday, GFL’s area director for Lower Mainland BC. “Our employees and the communities we serve in the Fraser Valley have been working diligently to fight the flood and keep everyone safe during these trying times. When the waters recede, our employees will be ready to play an integral role to help clean up and rebuild our communities.”
Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue is working on the frontlines of the flood response to provide urgent assistance and resources to those worst affected in the communities of Abbotsford, Langley Township and Langley City. GFL’s donation will go towards hovercraft and boat repairs, training for personnel and supplies.
Animal welfare charity BC SPCA is providing continuous support for animals and animal owners in impacted communities across the province. The charity has set up emergency pet boarding in Chilliwack for those who have been evacuated from their homes in nearby Abbotsford, as well as access to essential food and supplies for both domestic and farm animals.
Archway is a community-based social service charity in Abbotsford that provides local low-income and vulnerable residents of all ages with a wide range of social assistance programs, including a food bank. Archway is currently working to provide essential food resources to those impacted by the flood, with donations going towards maintaining the organization’s food bank services, which thousands rely on each month.
“When the extent of the flooding in British Columbia became apparent, our employees took the initiative to identify how the Full Circle Project could help by supporting local charities with relief efforts,” said Brianne Mahon, GFL’s community lead. “We worked with our BC team to identify local, high-impact charities working on the frontlines where our donations will make a real impact, from rescue efforts, to assisting with access to food, to helping provide safe harbor for animals.”
