Kurtis Walbridge wins 40 Under 40 award

From field operations to data-driven solutions, Kurtis Walbridge has dedicated his career to optimizing waste management. Now, his contributions are earning national recognition.

GFL GIS Specialist Walbridge, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, has been honored as a recipient of Waste 360’s prestigious 40 Under 40 Awards. He will be recognized alongside other distinguished winners at the Waste Expo in Las Vegas on May 6.

“I’m truly honored to be recognized with this award,” said Walbridge. “I’m passionate about my work, and it’s rewarding to know I’m making a real difference by simplifying operations and improving efficiency on the ground.”

Waste 360’s 40 Under 40 Awards recognize individuals whose dedication, creativity and leadership in the waste management sector are shaping the future of the industry. For Walbridge, this recognition is more than just an individual achievement—it’s the continuation of a family legacy.

As a fourth-generation waste professional, Kurtis has deep roots in the industry.

His journey began at 16, working alongside his family to clean transfer stations, conduct route audits, and assist with trash collection.

“My father and grandfather were incredible mentors, shaping my work ethic and teaching me that everyone has something valuable to offer,” Walbridge shared.

After spending several years honing his skills in various operational roles, Walbridge found an opportunity in GIS and logistics around 2017. Drawing on his extensive field experience, he quickly embraced the role, discovering a passion for large datasets, spatial analysis, and high-level business strategy.

“Through our team’s work with data mining, we help the logistics department monitor daily operations and ensure maximum efficiency,” Walbridge explained. “It’s incredibly gratifying to see the positive impact of our efforts, including revenue growth and process improvements.”

Outside of work, Walbridge enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, exploring new cities, and reading a good book.
