Despite the heavy blizzard, the communities of Traverse City and Kalkaska, Michigan, demonstrated their remarkable generosity as volunteers came together to assemble bikes for the Toys for Tots Bikes for Tikes program. At the helm, GFL Customer Service Representative Kelly Hines coordinated this inspiring Full Circle Project through her unwavering dedication to giving back.
“Kelly is truly an invaluable asset to our team,” said Customer Service Manager Julia Weinke. “Her empathy and kindness extend to everyone she meets — whether it’s customers, coworkers, or strangers. Her compassion shines through in everything she does, from exceptional customer service to her unwavering support of Toys for Tots.”
Hines was introduced to the Bikes for Tikes program — which builds and delivers bikes to kids for the holiday season — through her husband, who had been donating bikes with a friend. Inspired by their efforts and recognizing the growing need for support, Hines quickly got involved, making calls for donations and actively contributing to the cause.
Fast forward 15 years, and Kelly has become a driving force behind the initiative, taking the lead in gathering donations, buying bikes, and coordinating volunteers to assemble them for Toys for Tots.
It’s an act of community-driven generosity that shows how one person’s commitment can inspire an entire town to come together for a good cause.
And with GFL’s support, Hines was able to make an even greater impact. Through the Full Circle Project, her team secured a $5,000 donation for Toys for Tots and volunteered their time to help set up bikes.
“My co-workers have been incredibly generous over the years in supporting this cause,” Hines said. “Partnering with the Full Circle Project has enabled us to extend our contribution even further and make a real positive difference to local children.”
Hines also organizes an annual Thanksgiving bike assembly party, usually held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, despite challenging weather conditions, Hines was truly touched by the number of volunteers — including her GFL colleagues — who braved the conditions to lend a hand.
As a way to give back, Hines encourages others to get involved with the Full Circle Project.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to get involved and make a lasting impact in your local community!”
