Springing into Action: GFL Volunteers Support Survivors with Shelter Movers

Through our Full Circle Project (FCP), GFL is proud to partner with Shelter Movers, a Canadian volunteer-powered charity that provides free moving and storage services to individuals and families fleeing abuse.

On May 28, our Vaughan office hosted a Spring-Cleaning Drive packing event. A team of ten volunteers gathered in the office lunchroom to assemble 45 starter kits packed full of essential cleaning supplies. These kits will be distributed to individuals and families entering new homes after fleeing abuse.

Volunteers from our GFL branches in Vaughan, Arrow Road, and Bermondsey helped collect donated supplies and write personal notes of encouragement for kit recipients. The event was a hands-on way for our teams to support Shelter Movers’ mission through both action and empathy.

Shelter Movers has been named a recipient of a FCP Tomorrow grant under our Family Wellness class. GFL is proud to provide funding that support’s the organization’s vital work. This contribution will help deliver essential services like client support, vehicle rentals, secure storage, language interpretation, pet fostering, and more—helping survivors make safe, supported transitions to a life free from violence.

This project is a strong example of how FCP is fostering meaningful, long-term partnerships with organizations providing support to the communities we serve.

Volunteer Opportunities Are Ongoing

If you live or work near a Shelter Movers location – Halifax, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, the Greater Toronto Area, Southwestern Ontario, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, or Vancouver – you can make a direct impact by volunteering.

GFL employees can sign up using this link and identify themselves as GFL employees to have the background check cost covered through our partnership.

Thank you to all GFL employees who have already contributed their time, energy, and generosity to this important initiative. Together, we’re helping create safer futures for survivors of abuse.
