Sculpting change: GFL helps Wilder Institute/ Calgary Zoo raise awareness about ocean pollution

Through its Full Circle Project, GFL is supporting the Wilder Institute/ Calgary Zoo’s Washed Ashore exhibit—a collection of captivating, larger-than-life wildlife sculptures that are made entirely from reclaimed ocean debris.

Each piece in the exhibit is crafted from waste collected on Pacific Ocean beaches, including plastic bottles, food wrappers, and fishing nets.

GFL donated $10,000 towards the exhibit and sponsors an adorable installation of a mother penguin, Maggie, and her baby, Charlotte. The exhibit aims to raise awareness about plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways, and inspire visitors to take action for a cleaner planet.

On May 31, GFL Calgary team members joined the community at the exhibit opening.

“It was a great experience to be part of the exhibit unveiling," said GFL Sales Manager Mike Prevost. "Our team is proud to be part of an initiative that is raising awareness around protecting our environment."

The sculptures are displayed throughout the zoo’s indoor and outdoor spaces, from the Dorothy Harvie Gardens to the ENMAX Conservatory and more.

The Washed Ashore exhibit runs through September 14—if you’re in Calgary, don’t miss your chance to experience this powerful display of art and advocacy!
