GFL is delighted to announce that our Vice-President Environment, Health, Safety and Compliance (EHS&C) Selin Hoboy has been named one of Women In Trucking’s Top Women to Watch in 2024.
This accolade recognizes women who are top performers in the trucking and transportation industry, and who go the extra mile to support other women within their own companies and industry wide. Awardees not only display significant career achievements, but are also actively helping to improve gender diversity across the businesses they work in.
Selin began her career nearly 30 years ago as an industrial hygienist. She quickly advanced into the medical waste collection, transportation and disposal field where over 20 years she held roles of increasing responsibility. Beginning as an area manager for Environmental Health and Safety, she progressed to corporate vice-president of E&H, VP of regulatory affairs, and ultimately VP governmental affairs and compliance (global).
Selin came to GFL three years ago with a passion to build a world class EHS&C organization in a rapidly expanding organization with many different cultures.
One of her greatest strengths lies in developing and inspiring confidence in her team, which she does with the highest level of professionalism. Selin is a strong advocate for change and constantly open to new and unique ways to enhance EHS&C.
She professionally represents GFL as a member of the prestigious NWRA Board of Governors and sits on many of the related organization committees. She also serves as a board member of the Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (P2R) Consortium.
Cornerstone EHS&C programs at GFL have been created or significantly advanced under Selin’s leadership. In the last 12 to 18 months she’s overseen the implementation of needle-moving programs such as GFL’s centralized electronic Safety Environmental Management System (SEMS), LYTX safety camera’s redeployment, Emergency Preparedness, Special Waste Management, and EPA landfill gas inspection programs.
During her tenure at GFL she has built a unique professional team and structure that includes over 50 EHS&C professionals across North America.
Over a long and successful career Selin has been vocal and visible in opening doors while ensuring others could follow and have opportunities. Currently she leads a very diverse team where over one-third are female. Her employees continue to support, acknowledge and appreciate this.
Selin is an advocate and a leader who embodies Women In Trucking’s mission to further opportunities for women in the industry. She understands the importance of recognizing and addressing the unique challenges individuals may face and actively promotes diversity and inclusion. Her leadership style creates a culture of belonging where everyone feels valued and heard.
Congratulations, Selin!
