GFL partners with the Toronto Raptors – Revealing the Recyclosaur

In celebration of their 30th anniversary, the Toronto Raptors teamed up with GFL Environmental and Toronto-born industrial artist Junko to unveil the Recyclosaur, a unique art installation that fuses creativity and sustainability.

GFL Executive Theodore Manziaris took the stage at a special event outside Scotiabank Arena on February 2 to share GFL’s excitement for the project.

"Unveiling this piece was a truly significant moment, as it symbolizes our shared dedication to finding recycling solutions and increasing sustainability initiatives," said Manziaris. "We're beyond honored to have contributed to the Raptors’ 30th anniversary celebration in such a meaningful and impactful way."

Standing at 15 feet tall, the Recyclosaur is crafted from a variety of reclaimed materials—including plastics and metals—showcasing an eye-catching example of how recycled materials can be transformed.

GFL has also partnered with Scotiabank Arena on the Roar.Recycle.Repeat program which promotes recycling efforts at the arena, where aluminum cups are collected and repurposed into new products.

In 2024, GFL diverted over three million pounds of recyclable materials from Scotiabank Arena, reducing waste that would otherwise end up in Ontario landfills.

Chosen by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) to design the Recyclosaur, Junko infused his passion for sustainability into every aspect of the piece. He worked closely with GFL to explore and source resources from our recycling facilities, ensuring that his entire sculpture was made from recycled materials.

The unveiling event was a vibrant celebration complete with live DJ, high-energy performances from the North Side Crew Dancers and appearances by Raptors alumni.

The Recyclosaur is now touring the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), offering those in the region a chance to experience it in person.
