GFL Environmental is excited to announce it is partnering with The Niagara 2022 Host Society as the Official Sustainability and Exclusive Waste Management Partner of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.
The support GFL provides to communities across North America as an environmental service provider, in addition to their commitment to sustainability, led GFL to partner with Canada’s largest multi-sport event.
“In the fall of 2021, GFL was awarded the contract to provide residential collection service to the western region of Niagara, so we’re excited to have this opportunity to extend our support and commitment to the community by partnering with the 2022 Canada Games,” said Patrick Dovigi, GFL Founder and CEO. “We believe that investing in sport and community, particularly for young athletes, is important to promote good health and wellbeing in our local communities.”
Sustainability has always been at the forefront of GFL’s organizational mind, making it a perfect fit as Niagara 2022’s Presenting Sponsor of Sustainability deliverables. These deliverables will include a March 2022 Sustainability Summit, Earth Day 2022 activations, tree planting and restoration initiatives, community clean-ups, and sponsoring the N22 Green Team — which will be a group of volunteers responsible for undertaking sustainability programs during the Games. The Green Team will educate, provide awareness, and assist in waste diversion efforts, while also ensuring measures are in place to reduce the overall Games footprint, provide baseline tracking for future Games and overall awareness on techniques and opportunities to host sustainable events.
