Blue Bins must have open tops (no lids, bungee cords, tap or ties) and be easily identifiable as containing Blue Bin materials. They also must be capable of containing materials without spillage and shall not exceed 50 cm (20 in) in height and 50 cm (20 in) in width and 66 cm (26 in) in length.

Unacceptable Container

All Source Separated Organics (SSO) must be contained and tied in individual Certified Compostable Bags or in a tied Certified Compostable Bag Liner. The liner or bag full of SSO shall be contained in a plastic Green Bin. The size of the plastic Green Bin container shall not exceed 31 cm (12 in) x 34 cm (13 in) or a height of 60 cm (24 in).

Broken Container

Any receptacle placed out for collection which is broken or which breaks when lifted will not be collected.

Town-issued damaged Blue Bins and Green Bins will be replaced by the Town, at no cost, provided that the owner returns the damaged Blue Bin to the Town offices or other designated facilities.

Please remove your materials from the curb and set out next week for collection with a new container.

  • Glass & Ceramic: Drinking glasses, cups, dishes, cookware, ceramics, mirrors and light bulbs.
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW): Aerosol cans (full or partially full), anti-freeze, brake fluid, fertilizers, gasoline, glues & adhesives, motor oils, motor vehicle batteries, oil filters, paints (liquid or solid), paint thinner and varnish, pesticides, insecticides and herbicides, pool chemicals, propane cylinders, bleach, detergents, batteries, disinfectants, energy efficient bulbs (fluorescent bulbs), household cleaners, scouring powder, solvents, mothballs, rat poison, hair dye, hair spray, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, mildew remover, nail polish remover, needles and syringes (must be in puncture-proof container), perfume/cologne and pharmaceuticals.
  • Odd Plastic Items: Coat hangers, kitchen utensils, plastic utensils, plastic toys, lawn furniture, diapers, wax paper, garden hose, rope, pots, pans, wood and construction materials.

If your Green Bin was contaminated with one or more materials listed above, please remove your materials from the curb and set out next week for collection following these guidelines.

Boughs, twigs and cuttings may be set out for Collection in securely tied bundles which do not exceed 1.5 metres (five feet) in length or 30 cm (12 in) in diameter or 10 cm (4 in) in diameter per branch.

Note: Yard Waste materials are not accepted in plastic bags.

In addition, we do not accept the use of bungee cords/ties affixed to any container for waste collection. Bungee cords have posed several threats to the collection staff in the past.

The number of untagged garbage containers put out for collection from any residential establishment shall not exceed three (3) items for each collection day. All additional containers must be tagged. The maximum number of containers set out for residential collection shall not exceed six (6). Exceptions may be granted for justifiable medical reasons.

No person shall place any materials out for collection that may cause a nuisance or a hazard to members of the public. This includes ensuring all dust, hair, ashes and mold are bagged and tied within containers.

In addition, we do not accept the use of bungee cords/ties affixed to any container for waste collection. Bungee cords have posed several threats to the collection staff in the past.
