Frequently Asked Questions

GFL is proud to service the residents of Fairway and meet your trash and recycling needs. More information on our services in your community is listed below.

Residential trash collection – Limited to 96 gallons each week

  • Place items at the curbside by 7 a.m. Monday.
  • Place the GFL trash cart within a foot of the curb, with the arrow facing the street.
  • Place trash and recycling carts at least two (2) feet from one another, as well as from objects like mailboxes and parked vehicles.
  • Overage stickers are available from GFL customer service at a price of $10.00 for a sheet of five stickers. Overage stickers are also available at Fairway City Hall, 5240 Belinder Rd and Fairway Hen House, 2724 W. 53rd St
  • Affix overage stickers to bags.
  • Place those bags next to your GFL trash cart. DO NOT set extra bags on top of your cart.
  • Extra Trash Cart available from GFL for $10.00 per month – contact GFL for details 
  • DO NOT mix yard waste with trash.
  • DO NOT place broken down bulk items in trash cart. See directions for bulk item collections.
  • If your cart is damaged, contact GFL for repair or replacement (Odor is not damage). 
  • Construction and demolition debris WILL NOT be collected.

Recycling Collection
Place items at the curbside by 7 a.m. Monday.  Excess cardboard boxes and large boxes are to be broken down and stacked next to your cart.

Accepted Materials:

  • Paper Products
  • All paper/fiber products (junk mail, newspapers, magazines)
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Clean and empty beverage cartons
  • Plastic Containers
  • All household plastic containers marked with the recycling symbol (with or without caps). Includes Plastics #1-#7, except for Plastics #6.
  • Metal Containers
  • Aluminum containers
  • Steel and tin cans

Items NOT Collected for Recycling:

  • NO glass products
  • NO plastic bags
  • NO Styrofoam
  • NO packing materials
  • Do NOT mix yard waste with recycling.
  • NO food waste
  • NO batteries
  • NO biohazards (such as medical waste, syringes, disposable diapers etc.)

Recycling contamination poses a significant threat to the viability of curbside programs.

Weekly Yard Waste Collection
GFL collects up to 10 bags and/or bundles of yard waste each week. Please place your materials at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday.

    • Yard waste materials (grass clippings, leaves, plants, small shrubs and limbs less than 2 inches in diameter) must be placed in paper bags or rigid containers not to exceed 32 gallons.
    • Yard waste containers are to be provided by the property owner and clearly marked as yard waste  
    • Branches must be bundled and not exceed 4 feet in length or 18 inches in diameter.
    • Yard waste in PLASTIC BAGS will NOT be accepted.
    • Fencing, landscape timbers, flower pots, yard decoration, mulch, rock, dirt and similar materials are NOT considered yard waste and will not be collected.

    • Yard waste items must not exceed 40 pounds. For the safety of our crews, please do not place setouts with sticks or branches above the rim of the container.
    • GFL (or previous company) provided carts cannot be used for yard waste

Bulk Item Collection

      • GFL will collect up to three bulk items per month at Fairway households.
      • Bulk items will be collected on the second full collection week of each month.
      • Bulk items include: couch, chair, dresser, mattress, etc.
      • Carpet and rugs are to be cut and rolled in bundles no longer than 4 feet and 2 feet in diameter.
      • Please notify GFL of your bulk items at 816-380-5595 x3 or [email protected]
      • Bulk item collection excludes appliances. Hazardous wastes, tires and automotive parts, construction materials and electronics waste items such as televisions and computer monitors.

Appliances and other items not allowed in the monthly collection service can be collected for an additional fee. Contact GFL at 816-380-5595 x3 to receive a quote and make arrangements.

 Holiday Schedule
GFL observes the following holidays.

    • New Year’s Day
    • Thanksgiving
    • Christmas

If your regular weekly collection day falls on or after those holidays, your trash, recyclables and yard waste will be collected one day late.

Christmas Trees
GFL will collect Christmas trees that have been cut into sections no more than 4 feet in length and all decorations and tinsel must be removed. Trees are collected with the yard waste

Amnesty Weeks
GFL will collect extra bags of household trash that occur due to the holiday on the collection days following the Independence Day and Christmas Day holidays. Excess bags of residential holiday waste do not require stickers during amnesty weeks. This is not for bulk item collection.
