Frequently Asked Questions

GFL is proud to service the residents of Summit and meet your trash and recycling needs. More information on our services in your community is listed below.

Residential Trash collection

  • Place cart curbside NO later than 6:30AM on collection day.
  • Place the GFL trash cart within one foot of the curb, with the arrow facing the street.
  • Place trash and recycling carts at least two (2) feet from one another, as well as from objects like mailboxes and parked vehicles.
  • The Village of Summit provides one 96-gallon cart for trash. Additional trash carts may be purchased for an additional annual fee.
  • Extra trash/bags outside the cart will NOT be collected.
  • Trash/recycling carts not out at time of service, return service fee of $25.

Recycling Collection

  • Place cart curbside by 6:30AM every other collection week. (see calendar)
  • The Village of Summit provides one 96-gallon cart for trash. Additional trash carts may be purchased for an additional annual fee.

Accepted Recycling Materials:

  • Paper products
  • All paper/fiber products (junk mail, newspaper, magazines, phone books)
  • Clean and empty beverage cartons
  • Plastic containers
  • Metal containers
  • Aluminum containers
  • Steel and tin cans

 Items NOT collected for Recycling

  • Plastic bags
  • Scrap metal or car parts
  • Styrofoam
  • Glass (drinking, mirrors)
  • Packing materials
  • Pizza boxes

Yard Waste Collection

  • Yard waste pickup is included.
  • The pickup days are April 22, May 6, May 20, June 17, July 22, August 19, September 23, October 7, October 21, November 4, November 18.

Christmas Trees Collection Program

  • Trees must be called in to be scheduled and paid for before collection, no refunds.
  • Call in before 1/15/24 to schedule for pick up for the week of 1/15/24, for $50/Tree.
  • Call in before 2/5/24 to schedule for pick up for the week of 2/5/24, for $65/Tree.
  • Trees will need to be out at the curb for collection.
  • Trees cannot be bagged, and they need to be stripped of ornaments and lights.
  • Trees need to be cut down to 5 feet or under and dug out of the snow if we have any.

Bulk Item Collection

  • Residents are allowed one free bulk item per week.
  • ALL bulk items must be called in and scheduled in advance.
  • The item will be scheduled on residents’ regular trash pickup day.
  • All items MUST be placed at the end of driveway by 6:30am.
  • Appliances or items not qualified as “bulky items” can be collected for an additional fee.
  • Residents can bring in bulk and solid waste to Hartland transfer station free of charge (this does NOT include FREON appliances and tires). An additional fee for those appliances will be charged the day of drop off. Residents must show proof of residency upon arrival. Drop-off hours are on Tuesdays from 8am- 11am.
