GFL’s Brittany Loraas recognized in The Peak’s Emerging Leaders for 2023

Congratulations to Brittany Loraas, GFL’s Director, HR, Liquid Operations, for being recognized as one of The Peak’s Emerging Leaders for 2023.  

The Peak’s annual list celebrates up-and-coming young leaders shaping Canada’s economy, culture, and society.  

Emerging Leaders recognizes Canadians under 40 making a notable impact in their field.  

“It’s an honor to be named to this list, and it’s great to see the addition of the People and Culture category on the list – which is going to continue to be a key and critical function within every organization as we move forward,” said Loraas.  

Loraas has a passion for instilling a strong HR focus with the operational leaders to help them promote leadership and mentorship tools to develop effective supervisors and managers.   

She works to develop programs and strategies that support the important human resources focus of the company, including employee appreciation and recognition programs, training and development programs, recruitment strategies and more.  

After completing her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Loraas worked in sports marketing and event management; following that, she found her way into a human resources administrative role with a car dealership company in Saskatoon.  

She returned to school and completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Human Resources.  

Loraas has been working in waste management for the last 11 years, including six and half years with GFL.  

She works to develop programs and strategies that support the important human resources focus of the company, including employee appreciation, recognition programs and training, development programs, recruitment and more.  

“I think what differentiates GFL is our people - we truly have the best people in the industry,” Loraas said. 

Loraas highlights the regional management approach at GFL that has created an inclusive work environment, which allows employees to be creative and utilize their entrepreneurial spirit.  

“At the end of the day, we are in the business of people, and if we take care of our people, our people will take care of the business,” Loraas said.
